Background Remover FAQs
Practical answers about automatic edge removal, protected matching colors, manual correction, tolerance, privacy and transparent downloads.
How does the automatic background remover work?
Automatic mode first looks for a clear human subject. If a person is found, only that person is kept and the rest of the image is removed. If no clear person is found, the tool asks you to use manual Keep Selected Subject mode.
Why does the same color inside my image stay visible?
That is intentional in automatic mode. A matching color inside a separate card, object or enclosed area is protected when it is not connected to the outside background. You can remove that area manually if you want to.
How does manual mode work?
Click the person or object you want to keep in the Original panel, review the selection marker, then press Keep Selected Subject. The tool keeps the clicked subject and removes everything else.
What is the difference between Keep Selected Subject and Keep Similar Color Everywhere?
Keep Selected Subject keeps only the connected person or object you clicked. Keep Similar Color Everywhere is an advanced flat-graphic option that keeps matching colors across the image and is useful only in special cases.
Can I remove a white or light grey background without deleting white objects?
Often yes. Automatic mode follows the outside connected background, so a separate white or light object inside the image can remain protected. Very similar touching regions may still require a lower tolerance or manual correction.
What does Color tolerance do?
Color tolerance controls how similar nearby colors may be before they are treated as part of the selected region. Keep it low for white, grey or subtle card backgrounds and increase it only when the intended area is not fully removed.
What does Edge softness do?
Edge softness creates smoother semi-transparent boundary pixels around a removed region. It can make cutout edges look more natural, especially around anti-aliased shapes.
Can I download the result with a transparent background?
Yes. Use Download Transparent PNG to preserve transparency. You can also download a JPG version with a white background.
Are my images uploaded to the Valsolution server?
No. This background remover processes the selected image in your browser. The tool interface states that the image is not uploaded to Valsolution for this background-removal process.
Which image formats can I use?
The tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP images up to 15 MB. Transparent output is available as PNG.
Can I undo a manual selection?
Yes. Use Undo last to remove the most recent manual selection marker, or Clear Manual Selections to remove all pending manual selections.
Is this an AI background remover?
For photos with a clear person, automatic mode uses browser-side person segmentation. Images without a clear person fall back to deterministic edge-connected color processing, and manual correction remains available.
